Which CMS is ‘ideal’ for your website?

Which CMS is ‘ideal’ for your website?

It’s a difficult question to answer that which CMS is ideal for the website. Why? Because, apples and oranges are both fruit, but it’s hard to quantify which one is better for you! We can help you decide which one is better.

What Exactly Is A Content Management System (CMS)?

Wikipedia describes a CMS as follows:

“A web content management system (WCMS or Web CMS) is a content management system (CMS) software, usually implemented as a Web application, for creating and managing HTML content. It is used to manage and control a large, dynamic collection of Web material (HTML documents and their associated images). A CMS facilitates content creation, content control, editing, and many essential Web maintenance functions.”

Building static websites with all HTML/CSS pages was fine a few years ago, but with a CMS you create is a ‘dynamic website’. Dynamic means it changes on demand. All information stored on a server might change at the drop of a hat. That means you can change the content without any hassles. Fixed means it stays the same all the time. You need an HTML editor to change the files and images.

A good CMS allows a website owner to concentrate on the most important item: The Content.

Evaluating a Content Management Systems (CMS)

The choice of CMS will depend on your needs, which include your target audience, the security of data, scalability, and even your familiarity with using CMS interfaces.

Interesting article. I'd also add that Drupal is particularly good at handling sites with requirements for highly structured data, or heavily relational content.

I'd also be curious to know what you and your team think of Backdrop CMS. How do you feel about the Product? How do you feel about it being a Drupal Fork? Would your team consider using something like Backdrop in the future?
